Crafty for Christmas

Continuing with the festive theme, here is a pattern for some gorgeous (and simple!) Christmas napkins to ensure that everyone knows it's Christmas in your house!

Using any kind of fabric and your sewing machine you can make beautiful napkins in only a few minutes. Napkins are effortless to make and you can decorate them with pre-made appliqués featuring Christmas trees, ornaments, snowmen or even Santa Claus.

Instructions (Difficulty: Easy):

Things You'll Need

  • Red, green or Christmas-themed fabric
  • Iron
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Sewing machine
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Christmas appliqué

    • 1
Pre-wash the fabric. Turn the iron on to the proper temperature setting for your chosen fabric type. Iron the freshly washed fabric to remove any wrinkles or creases.
    • 2
Use a ruler and scissors to measure and cut the fabric in to 17 inch squares. Alter the size of the napkin if you desire, but make sure to cut the fabric one inch larger than you want the napkin.
    • 3
Fold one side of a fabric square over 1/4 inch and iron to crease the edge. Turn the fabric clockwise and repeat until you have folded and creased each side of the fabric. Double each side of the fabric over again and use the iron to crease the edges. Repeat this step with each fabric square.
    • 4
Use a sewing machine, with any stitch style you like, to sew all the way around the outside edge of each napkin. Position the appliqué on each napkin and sew around the outside edges to adhere it to the fabric.
5
Lay each napkin flat on a hard surface and iron the entire piece of fabric to remove any wrinkles before using.
